Economic Boom Forecast as Open Cut Nickel Mine Licence in Tasmania is Granted

William Rowland are a leading supplier of Nickel.

The Barnes Hill area near Beaconsfield in Tasmania has been surveyed for the past 3 years by Sydney-based mining company Proto Resources.

According to reports by Proto Resources Chairman Andrew Mortimer, the mine is said to have a lifetime of up to 16 years and could produce around 250,000 tonnes of nickel per year, and the project could also create around 100 jobs.

Barry Easther, Mayor of the West Tamar Council, has predicted an economic boom in the area following the opening of the nickel mine. "A company like that would obviously spend significant sums of money in the Tamar Valley, and so from the economy point of view, it will be very beneficial," he said.
