Ferro-Nickel Plant To Be Built by Korea Resources

Along with three other companies, Korea Resources Corporation has agreed to build a $106 million ferro-nickel plant in Korea in Donghae, east of Seoul. The plant is predicted to produce 75,000 metric tonnes of ferro-nickel each year starting in 2012.

South Korea currently import the majority of minerals and energy that the country needs; however they are increasing spending on internal resource projects as raw material prices rise.

"Mineral resources are a competitive strength for national industry and have an influence on national security," says Kim Shin Jong, CEO of Korea Resources.

The joint venture will help ensure a secure supply is produced of the alloy material used in specialty steel.
