Nickel

William Rowland are leading suppliers of Nickel.

Nickel is used in various industrial and consumer products, some of which include stainless steel, magnets, coins, rechargeable batteries, electric guitar strings, and special alloys. Nickel is an alloy metal, and its primary use is in nickel steels and nickel cast irons. It is also widely used in many other alloys, such as nickel brasses and bronzes, and alloys with copper, chromium, aluminum, lead, cobalt, silver, and gold.

We are the U.K. distributors for VALE and supply their range of melting products and powders including pellet, cathode and foundry alloys i.e. nickel magnesium, nickel calcium and powders (see powder section for details).

Nickel is a vital additive in iron and steel production, promoting strength at both elevated and cryogenic temperatures. It is particularly beneficial in stainless steels and superalloys, in fact stainless steel accounts for more than 60% of the world's demand for nickel.

Vale Carbonyl Nickel Powders

Nickel carbonyl gas can be decomposed under a number of different production parameters to produce powders in a variety of sizes and morphologies to meet user requirements.

Type 123 - These powders are developed primarily for PM applications and consist of fine, discrete, spherical particles with a spiky, irregular surface. This powder is characterised by average particle sizes of 3-7µ FSSS, apparent densities of 1.6-2 g/cc, and specific surface areas (BET) of about 0.4 m2/g. The unique and reproducible shape of this powder promotes mixing and binding with other metal powders to produce homogeneous distributions important to diffusion and consolidation by sintering to produce high density PM parts for auto parts, high purity magnetic and controlled expansion alloys, nonferrous sintered components, electrical contacts, and binders for diamond tools and heavy alloys.

Type 255 - These filamentary powders exhibit excellent conductivity due to the "bead and chain" structures, typically 2.2 -3.3µ cross-section and more than 15µ in length. Apparent density values range from 0.50 -0.95 g/cc and specific surface area values can be varied between 0.6 and 8.0m²/g. These low apparent density powders are used in battery and fuel cell electrodes to render conductivity to non-metallic materials such as paints and plastics used in Electromagnetic Shielding (EMS) applications. They are also used as non-metallic and corrosion-resistant binders in refractory metal cements e.g hardmetals.

Nickel Chips

Vale nickel plating chips are a high putirty form of nickel specifically designed for electroplating with titanium anode baskets. Chips are produced by a unique carbonyl gas refining process ar their Copper Cliff Nickel Refinery in Sudbury, Canada.

Vale Nickel Pellets

Vale inco nickel pellets have the lowest metallic impurity of any commercially available form of nickel. The consistent quality of Vale Inco Nickel pellets makes tem suitable for the production of nickel containing alloys requiring high purity charge material. This includes high nickel alloys and iron base alloys made to exacting aerospace and electronic industry standards. The exceptionally low cobalt content makes this form attractive for the production of alloys meeting nuclear industry specifications.
