Vale™ carbonyl nickel powders
As distributors of Vale™, we offer their nickel powder types 123 and 255. Nickel carbonyl gas produces nickel powders in a variety of sizes and morphologies:
Vale™ Type 123
Description: Fine, discrete, spherical particles with a spiky, irregular surface.
Average particle size: 3-7µm FSSS.
Apparent density: 1.6-2 g/cc.
Specific surface area: Typically 0.4 m2/g.
Qualities: The unique and reproducible shape of this powder promotes mixing and binding with other metal powders to produce homogeneous distributions important for diffusion and consolidation by sintering.
Applications: Primarily PM applications; high density PM parts for auto parts; high purity magnetic and controlled expansion alloys; non-ferrous sintered components; electrical contacts; and binders for diamond tools and heavy alloys.
Vale™ Type 255
Description: Filamentary powders with excellent conductivity due to their bead and chain structures.
Average particle size: Typically 2.2 -3.3µ.
Apparent density: 0.50 -0.95 g/cc.
Specific surface area: Typically 0.6 - 8.0m²/g.
Applications: These low apparent density powders are used in battery and fuel cell electrodes to render conductivity to non-metallic materials such as paints and plastics used in electro-magnetic shielding (EMS) applications. They are also used as non-metallic and corrosion-resistant binders in refractory metal cements e.g. hard metals.
