Ferro Alloys

Ferro Aluminium

Ferro Aluminum is a dense and highly efficient aluminum addition and contains 30-40% Al. It is commonly used as a deoxidant in the steel making industry.

Ferro Boron

Globally more than 50% of ferro boron produced is consumed in the steel industry. However it is also used in the manufacturing of cast iron, permanent magnets and armorphous metals.

Ferro boron is the lowest cost addition agent and is also available as cored wire.

Ferro Chromium

There are several grades of ferro chromium that are available with carbon levels being the determining factor. The principal impurities in ferrochrome are carbon and silicon. Low carbon ferro chromium is used mostly when making final adjusments in steel production, and high carbon ferro chromium remains the most widely used chromium addition for the production of stainless and alloy steels.

Ferro Manganese

Standard ferro manganese is produced in blast furnaces and in submerged-arc electric furnaces. The main use of ferro manganese is as a method of introducing manganese in controlled quantities during the steel production process.

Ferro Molybdenum

Ferro molybdenum can be used in any melting process to add molybdenum to all types of iron and steel.

Ferro Niobium

Ferro niobium's major usage is in the alloying process of steel, which is then used in industries such as automobile, construction and amusement park rides.

Ferro Phosphorus

Ferro phosphorus is used in the production of phosphoric irons and certain free cutting steels, supplied in lumpy or crushed form, typically 25% P with controlled Si contents 1% and 2% max.

Ferro Selenium

Ferro selenium is used in the production of free cutting stainless steel.

Ferro Silico Manganese

Ferro silico manganese is used mainly in low carbon grades of steel due to the low carbon content of the alloy, nominally C 1.5%-2.0%, or where specific alloying characteristics are required. It is the preferred method of introducing manganese into steel where the silicon is not deleterious and has the extra benefit of introducing lower levels of phosphorus and aluminium to the melt compared with making individual additions of ferro silicon and ferro manganese.

Ferro Silicon

Ferro silicon is used as a source of silicon to deoxidize steel and other ferrous alloys. In contact with water, ferro silicon may slowly produce hydrogen which is used by the military to quickly produce hydrogen for balloons.

Ferro Silicon Magnesium

Ferro Silicon Zirconium

Ferro silicon zirconium is available in a range of sizes to suit customer requirements and is typically used as deoxidant in steel castings or in certain steels where a low residual aluminium is required.

Typical analysis is 50% Si, 35% Zr.

Ferro Sulphide

William Rowland Ltd can supply  ferro sulphide in the form of 100mm lumps or specially sized pieces down to 3mm.

The ferro sulphide contains a minium of 30% sulphur, and is available in drums, sacks or pre-weighed bags down to 5 kgs.

Ferro sulphide is trypically used for accurate charge and trim additions in certain forms to improve the inoculation process. It is also used in the production of free cutting steels or in certain cases where hydrogen embrittlement in steel is a problem.

Ferro Titanium

Ferro titanium is used in the steelmaking industry as a cleansing agent for iron and steel, and is therefore used for deoxidizing, desulfurization and denitrification. In steelmaking, the addition of titanium yields metal with finer grain structure.

Ferro Tungsten

Ferro tungsten is mainly used in high speed and tool steels. Owing to its high melting point the alloy is almost always added to the furnace rather than to the ladle.

Ferro Vanadium

Ferro vanadium is primarily used in the steel manufacturing industry and is used to promote fine grain size, to increase hardenability and offer improvements in wear resistance.
